I have just had pepper out as I noticed his grease gland needed a clean, does this look okay? It’s got a few yellow crusty bits in it, Pringles is normally just greasy hair but pepper seems to have less hair around his so I just wanted to check this looks normal.

Thanks everyone, I just gave it a very good clean up, it does look much better now he doesn’t have a lot of fur there unlike Pringle. I will keep an eye on it this week to see if it turns mast again!

I remember one of mine had that too. It was really greasy and crusty. But not red or swollen. Once I had cleaned it up it looked a bit bald. But it didn’t ever come back though. Keep an eye on it for a bit.

Yes I am happy it’s not sore looking, he wasn’t showing any signs of discomfort when I was clenaing it off just the usual trying to run away and how dare you touch my bum!

Coconut oil works well on my boys grease glands, honestly I don't think in my decades of owning guinea pigs I have ever seen a grease gland that close up. I have only owned very hair pigs haha.
Glad you got it all cleaned up! Maybe just keep an eye on it for a bit to make sure it was just a build up and not a persistent issue

Did you use coconut oil? Or just normal piggy shampoo?
I used both I rubbed it with Coconut oil then washed it off with piggie shampoo… then had to pick off a few stubborn bits but they didn’t come off with ease.

Yes my other boy has much thicker hair around his, atleast I know I’m starting from a clean place so I can keep an eye on it going forward.
