Hi all,
Does my playpen look ok to you? I've only just set it up v quickly for them to come out for a little while (I've only had my boys since Monday)

The pink spotty is shower curtain. I guess it's better to cover this in case they nibble?

They are currently hiding (of course!)

Thanks in advance

I need to put a water bottle up too!

How big is it? It's hard to judge sizes from pictures but it looks a little on the small side for me. Play pens are meant to be bigger than the cage area (in my opinion, and as best I understand) in order to allow for extra running and exercise. Also, maybe cover the whole shower curtain with a blanket, although I guess that isn't entirely necessary, but it would help soak up piddles better so they're not left running through puddles. The contents of the pen looks fine.

Looks fab. Get a fleece blanket was it several times with softener then put tis on top of shower curtain. The fleece will wick away the wet, they wont then be able to chew the plastic (all pigs try to do this lol) and the shower curtain protects the floor.

Lovely amount of hideys in there. Don't worry they will venture out at some point, early days yet, you are doing well

thanks for the encouragement! The boys came out but they were having a bit of a dominance Battle I think. That's normal when they are in new territory isn't it? Also, I was given some toys by someone who used to use them with their guineas. Is this safe to use again or is it best to bin? Would they smell an old guinea on them? Obviously they would be disinfected where possible but some are wooden?

Thanks for all your help, love this forum! Xx

I'm not sure how big it is but I don't think it's big enough really. Problem is I started out thinking I was keeping Guineas outside so got a hutch and was about to get an outdoor run then decided to keep them for a bit so bought indoor cage and got this playpen as part of a bundle. We have three little kids so it's difficult to know where to put a biger indoor run. I also need one that folds down. I've taken over our Newly built utility room with all he guinea stuff already Xx

:)

It is normal for their age and for boys :) It should settle. That's a strange one and a good question.... personally I would bin them and get fresh and I am saying this onyl because of what happen a few weeks ago to us. We lost one of our girls Sarsaparilla quite suddenly, the following week I put in a cosy she'd been sitting in and Widget freaked out, she wouldn't go near the end of the cage where it was. So smells can definitely stay on things. Plastic you could clean well, but I think wooden would be difficult to disinfect.

I am really pleased you are enjoying it here. Everyone is so lovely and community orientated

I have that same run. Although I admit i know longer use it as they have free roam time in the hallway now and have a giant wooden run for outside time.

I can say however that the run is much bigger in real life than it looks on the photo. You have it more in a diamond shape there but it is bigger set up as a square.

Cover the shower curtain with a fleece as suggested above and it'll be absolutely fine for two piggies x

Sorry you lost one of your girls. I wondered if something like that may be the case with things that have been used with other Guinea pigs. I can replace everything I got given - it's a good thing I like shopping:P

Yes this place is marvellous :yahoo: thanks for having me! Xx

Hi Claire, thanks very much. Yes it became more diamond shaped as I was making it as my toddler child kept coming closer! She was amazingly well behaved though and loved watching the pigs through the door of the utility room so she didn't disrupt them.

Where did you get your outdoor run btw? I'm trying to find something at moment.
Thanks v much

You can disinfect wooden huts by baking them in the oven for a bit. But obviously watch that they don't burn.
