So i have two three year old piggies and have seen that it is possible to litter train them to save money on bedding and reduce the amount of times i clean them out a week.

Has any body tried litter training ? How did you do it ?

From what i've heard,
Guinea pigs can never be fully litter trained, unlike a cat or rabbit if there at one end of there cage they won't run to the other for the toilet however they do to some extent and can often do more poops in one area that another but it takes alot of work and you'd still need to clean the whole cage just as often, it's just so you can clean the litter tray say every other day and the whole cage every week for example.

I don't think you can fully train them :)

I have one piggy who always pees in her litter tray, she even waits for me to change the paper so she can get in it & go rolleyes however the other two just go anywhere in the cage. The litter trays have hay racks hanging above so they do tend to do most of their wees in them & a lot of poops but I still have to poop scoop in between clean outs. I empty the litter trays several times a day if needed :)

Yes after spending the last 3-4 weeks seeing if its possible to toilet train - I've concluded probably not rolleyes

Mine have a large tray with the hayrack and food in it, they go 80% in there and as it's lined with newspaper I just change it every morning. I still wash the liner every 3 days though - but thats because they are in a very small room so if I don't change that often you do notice a smell (whereas before when they were in a smaller cage in a bigger room you wouldn't notice the smell until at least 4 days)
