I want to switch from wood shavings to fleece bedding as my pigs constantly kick up the wood shavings when they run around the cage, the only issue is I've only seen fleece bedding in C&C cages. I'm just wondering if fleece bedding would work with a standard cage (wire top, plastic bottom)? Does anybody else have fleece bedding with a cage like this?

I don’t have this type of cage (my boys have their man-shed!), but it would work. The only thing you might find is that the fleece is too big for the cage bottom - commercial cages are usually narrower than 2 grid wide c&c cages, but it certainly wouldn’t be a problem and you could find a way to ensure the piggies don’t get underneath the fleecd

I have C&C cages and a commercial one. I use them in my cage, it's a Little Friends 160 x 80 so not a C&C size (slightly smaller than 5 x 2 and slightly bigger than 2 x 4). I make my own liners to the size I want. I am sure a lot of the people who sell liners on line will make them bespoke to fit any cage size.

Thank you, I think would buy one slightly bigger than my current cage as I think one of my piggies is a burrower and pin it down with the wire top to make sure she cant get underneath it

Thank you, I'll have a look into getting one of those. At least I know now that they're fine in a commercial cage

Hi, I have a Ferplast Arena and use fleece in the base. I bought them from Pampered piggies who were recommended on here. I did have to get them custom made, they're of excellent quality, decent price and so much easier than anything else I've tried. I put shredded cardboard underneath the fleece to make it a bit more absorbent and change the fleece twice a week.

I have fleece with a shop bought cage. Works for me! Because most sellers of fleece allow you to customise you can have made to any size you want, so that’s not a problem. I’d go for two so you can rotate out while one is being washed and I use Asda bath mats underneath as a secondary layer which works nicely. Hay is the only pain when it comes to fleece as it does stick to it, but a stiff brush works, as does a handheld hoover or a rubber glove in scraping up any that falls out of the hay rack. Plus fleece looks a lot nicer (top tip, go for a darker or busy pattern that hides the poos!) 🙂

I use the maxxi skyline 120 x 60 cm cage and I have 2 fleece liners, they fit fine after shrinking a bit in the wash, I got them made to order from a lady on amazon. So she must have made them bigger slightly on purpose

There are some fleeces available from eBay sold in standard cage sizes, they might not be that thick compared to custom made fleece liners, but in a standard cage it would be pretty easy to change regularly :)

i use both fleece liners ,and vetbed that is cut to size from a rescue, and 60 x60cm washable bed pads, the latter method is excellent at absorbing moisture for a week.vetbed dries in half an hour ,so do the washable pads which is easier in the cooler months.i do not have a tumble dryer.

Thank you, do you use absorbent pads then the bath mat and then the fleece on top of that?

Thank you, do you not find that the pigs chew on the vet beds? i think mine would definitely eat their body weight in the stuff haha

No, no absorbent pads for me. Just bath mats then the fleece, which I wash every 3 days. The bath mats I wash every 6 days. I bought my fleece from a seller on amazon and it has an absorbent layer inside, so those things together seem to do the trick. I have two 7mo boys btw, in case you’re wondering how many pigs I have and how much wee I have to deal with!
