does everyone's piggies drag their food to where their hiding?

I scatter feed veg and pellets so both mine forage for them as enrichment rather than having bowls. It also helps as my two are boys so scattering helps prevent any hogging issues.

What do you mean by ‘grain’?

Also have two bowls at least one body length apart.

My dominant pig doesn't but if the other one finds a bit of his fave veg he picks it up and runs off to hidey with it

Yes one of piggles does - he is the quieter shy one and will sometimes run off with a bit of lettuce etc into a hidey but he will eat in the open too. Sometimes I think if it’s noisy he does this 😊

Yep my boys do it all the time 😁 You can tell what their favourite veg is because they will tug it out of your hand and run away to a box to eat it 🤣

Our guinea pigs almost never share, so if i give them some grain in a small bowl they will both dig their heads in the same time.

Hi!

Try scatter feeding and please do not feed grain. It is too high in fat and protein to make suitable long term food.
It is perfectly normal for piggies to run off with a choice morsel in order to not have it snatched from their mouths (which is the way babies and youngsters learn what is safe to eat). This behaviour is often more pronounced in groups or in piggies from a background where food was not always plentiful.

Lily always takes food into hiding at veggie time, Poppy sometimes does but Daisy and Boris never bother. Mind you what Daisy wants Daisy gets so she never has to consider the option of hiding

Mine do it even though I scatter food around, they still think the other ones are going to nick it, especially the best bits!

One of mine regularly drops hers on route to 'her corner' (because she is frankly over ambitious on the size she can carry!) and desperately tries to find it but then the other steal it and run off...they are hilarious! Also, trying to see one take a long piece of pepper through a door sideways when it wont fit is equally entertaining...but they wont give it up for anyone even when I try to rescue it and put it through properly.

Who needs telly with them around?!

I agree! they can be so hilarious!

Yes, Guinea pigs often drag their food to their hiding place because they are prey animals and their natural instincts are to hide. Make sure you feed them because then they will recognize your scent after a while, and they will start to
trust you.

Most of the times my three boys eats from the same spot when they get veggies. It doesnt matter if I give them one bowl, two bowls or spread the veggies around.
One of them does sometimes takes a veggie and run away, and then another one just have to do same thing! I can almost hear the litte dude who stays with the veggies think that he is the winner here...

Thanks for everyone's recommendations and suggestions, i'll try the things you've said.
Thanks again!
what i mean by 'grain' is a seeds and pellets mix.
we don't feed it that often, we only feed it occasionally. 🐹 🐹 🌳

Seeds and pellets mix - it’s what we call muesli here. It isn’t recommended to be fed at all. It contains items which are not good for them at all, piggies should really be eating seeds. A plain hay or grass based pellet should be fed in limited quantities of one tablespoon per pig per day.

Mine do... I actually give them two bowls because one of my past pigs, Sundae, would drag the food dish into the pigloo and then sit with her butt blocking the door to try to hoard all the food!
