does anyone use plastic potting trays in their cages?

I bought a cheap £1 cat litter tray from The Range. It's shallow only about an inch high but does the job!
Thinking about it, it may have been the £1 shop!

I use a large corner litter tray (pets at home about £12) with a layer of wood cat litter (from tescos, about £3.99 a bag) and then put the hay on top, this way the moisture absorbs into the litter so the hay stay much dryer ! I add small amounts of hay through out the day so its always fresh :)

I brought a seed tray or two for my guineas cost 75p each for Morrisons, I put news paper and hay in it, when I put it in thier cage there is a dash to be the first into the hay.:))

that's exactly what i do too

i use kitten litter trays with one end cut out so they dont have to hop over anything to get in. They sometimes work but i find my 2 get in it but then hang their bums out to poop so its a bit hit and miss...literally

I use a litter tray too, usually lined with puppy pads, the girls use this as a toilet too so I need to change it completely every day or 2.

I think a potting tray would work fine :-)

I used cat litter tray all over living room - total 14 trays with vet bed in it.I'm changing wet with another dry twice a day, while wt drying they use dry ones.Over 3 days I do washing dirty piece of vet beds :)

i've tried the cat litter trays before and they wouldn't use them. fussy piggies! i think a lower edge tray might be better. i'm going to trial some new things for that area of the cage over the next month or so, so i can always give the tray a go i suppose, and use it for the bunnies if ches and maisie don't like it.

o/h tops up at aldi so i'll get him to check there for the tray. thanks :)

I've noticed in the last days that as well as just toiletting in the hay box the girls are now deciding to do it right next to the box as well. I mean how rude. {:|

Yup I've got something very similar in the gangs hay loft area (although wasn't anywhere near as expensive as that) - it's brilliant and the piggies tend to wee/poo in it whilst munching on their hay so cleaning out the top level is just a case of rolling up the newspaper/bedding/hay in the tray and popping it in a bin liner.

I've just been looking at these today in The Range, they wernt as expensive as the e-bay ones.
I hummed and arhhhed, then walked away, then I popped into the Aldi and they had them in there too but they had extra compartments at the back for tools and the like. I might get one from The Range next time I go. The pigs would love to test it out.

We got special litter trays from a German pet shop. Our guinea-pigs sort of use them as a toilet, but sometimes they will sleep in them as well!:red

After reading this thread and being on the hunt for a litter tray for AGES I saw one in Robert Dyas!

It is BRILLIANT! the handle makes it easy to empty and as it has a edge it sort of makes a tunnel - well a lip they can run under and all the way round it - Abby was V excited!

best piggie buy for a £5. Thank you OP fab idea!

xx
