Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone has any idea what this wound/scab could be? My boy Ollie had it a couple months ago when he was being treated with Ivermectin, and frankly I completely forgot about it once his treatment stopped because I assumed it was a scab from itching. He hadn’t been picking at his skin or itching or anything since and has been doing great so it completely slipped my mind.

It looks a bit funky, almost circular with a crust in the centre? And I can feel an underside to it too, not massive but a tiny bit lumpy. If I press on it it irritates him but otherwise he’s in great form! I just did his weighing which was when I spotted it and he’s actually gained weight, he’s 1.2kg up from his usual 1.1kg, his appetite is great, great drinker and he’s very active and happy and constantly popcorning so I’m trying not to panic because in every other way he’s great. Doesn’t seem to bother him whatsoever unless I actually touch it with any pressure because he’s not acting any different than usual at all.

To add I’ll of course get him to the vet! Just curious if anyone might have any ideas, my nearest exotics is 2 hours away so he’ll go to my regular vet first so sometimes knowing what it could be is helpful

Good luck at the vets. Lumps definitely need a hands on vet visit. It could be a few things. Most easily treatable. I’m sure it will be sorted in no time.

Hard to tell from the pic but is it on his back or on the underside because underneath they do actually have 2 nipples. Soooo is it perhaps on his tummy just inside his back leg? And is there one on the other side too?

And if it's on his upper surfaces yes, get it checked out by all means. I don't think this is a pig-specific thing so any vet should be up on lumps and bumps. They can just get normal things like moles as well as the worrying stuff. Oh what am I saying? We worry about everything! 😅

It’s on his side just near his back, feels a bit crusty and rasied so definitely a scab or wound of some kind, just never had a piggy with a similar sort of wound before! :hmm:

Hi all, he was at the vet so just thought I’d update! Incredibly strange but it was a hard lump she managed to pop out, and inside the hole was grey puss/sebum. Really odd and even the vet was surprised by it but she doesn’t think it’s anything malignant anyway and should be just fine. He’s on antibiotics and some salt water bathing for a week :)

Hi everyone, just wanted to ask re this again. So the vet said it’s definitely a cyst of some kind, while it was drained it has kinda stayed the same. She did mention we could try remove it under local anesthesia, if there was any speak of general anesthesia I would be going to my exotics vet it’s just a couple hours away. Even then I’m not sure about tampering with it with local anesthesia either. My vet said leave it with her and we could come up with a plan anyway but I’m just wondering if anyone has any experience with cysts like this?

I’m wondering if it’s okay to just leave it alone? It doesn’t seem to bother him whatsoever, he’s a happy little boy and eating, drinking and pooping just fine!

I have no experience with these but the fact that it doesn't seem to be bothering him and he's a happy boy would make me inclined to leave well alone. It's good to have a plan of action in case it starts to 'go wrong' in the future but right now it feels like leaving it is not in any way harming him. Maybe someone with more lump experience will disagree but that's how it seems to me ☺️
