Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone hoovers their Vetbed prior to washing it?

I've found that vetbed is a great option for bedding (and my pigs agreed!) but the big drawback is having to get out all the debris which is stuck in the pile, before washing, so it doesn't clog the machine.

At first I used to whack the dirty vetbed against the next door neighbour's extension wall (which conveniently backs right onto my garden!) - this was great for de-stressing (especially after their cat had pooed all over my garden...grrr!) but then I got really fed up of this beating malarky and discovered it was much quicker, easier and more effective just to hoover it before washing.

I've been doing this for about 6 months now and haven't encountered a problem yet - so far the hoover seems fine but I'll have to wait and see if any long-term damage occurs! My Dyson makes light work of removing the stubborn in-ground hay, after I've shaken all the poos and loose stuff off first. As long as I'm careful and make sure that I secure the piece of vetbed, so the hoover doesn't suck it up when I go around the edges, then this has always worked fine for me (so far, fingers crossed)!

Just wondering if anyone else hoovers their vetbed....and if so, did it ruin your hoover? Am I in danger of sacrificing my vacuum cleaner to save my washing machine?!

Any thoughts on my domestic appliance dilemma, please?!

Many thanks :)

Hello

I've been using vetbed for about a month or so now and I hoover it once a day.
I use a dustpan and brush to get up all the poo's and hay then I go over it with the hoover, I use the little tool thats for stairs, it works wonders especially on the hair my piggies leave all over the place.
It almost looks like new after I've done it, I wouldn't be without vetbed now and I can't see that I'll ever stop hoovering it, I have a dyson too and I haven't noticed any problems.
I think because they are bagless and you can pretty much take them completely apart to clean, it should be ok.

Someone told me on here too that if you comb your vetbed out after it's washed with a wide toothed comb it stops it from clumping up. I've been doing that too and it's brilliant.

Good luck with your hoover I'm sure it will be fine. :))

I have been using vet bed for about 2 years and I use my old dyson which I have had for about 7 years and it still works fine. I also hoover the vet beds before I wash it, or I will shake the vet beds and use a brush to get all the crap off, before I put in the washing machine.

Thanks. I'll carry on hoovering it then, as you've had no problems.

I've been combing the vetbed too, as advised on the instruction label - really does make a difference.

Was thinking I may get a small hand-held hoover to pick up the bits in-situ, inbetween washes, if I can find a cheap bagless one which looks robust enough and has enough suction. We don't have room for any more household gadgets but if it makes my life easier then I'm sure I could sneak it in without him noticing and then pretend that we've had it for years!.....(well it's not like he's very familiar with our cleaning appliances so he'd be none the wiser!) :)
