If the pigs wee in-between the fluffy bits then it wicks through fine, but if they wee on the fluffy tufts (?) then it just sort of sits there wet.

A couple of thoughts here, Has the vet bed been previously washed to wear it in? and do you use conditioner?
New bedding needs a couple of washes before it starts wicking properly. Using conditioner in your washing buils a coating on the fibres and stops the wicking effect. Non bio is the best.

Yes, it’s been washed many times. No conditioner, just white vinegar. Non-bio liquid :)
