Do your guinea pigs have “bad” arthritis days?

Hi everyone!

I am fairly new to guinea pig arthritis - my guinea pig started meloxicam (0.6 mg/mL twice daily, dog strength) a little over a month ago for arthritis in her hind knees. It has definitely made a difference!

Today she is a bit wobbly/stiff, kind of how she was before she started the meloxicam. I’m wondering if this is something that usually happens in guinea pigs with arthritis? I have already contacted my vet to let her know that I’ve noticed this, and will adjust the dosage with her if the wobbliness continues. :)

I am hoping that she is just having a bit of an “off” day, though. Any experiences with this, or have you all ended up having to increase the dosage?
 
Jenny has been on metacam for about six months. She initially improved but then slipped back. We got her on glucosamine which bought her a bit more time but she has now gone onto gabepentin as well.

How old is she? Is she otherwise well in herself?

Hi - thanks for the reply! She is 7 years old, and she is perfectly fine & acting like herself other than the slight wobbliness/stiffness.
 
I have two boars with arthritis, one in his spine and hips and one with it in his spine and knees. Yes they do have off days. Mine have Metacam daily and Gabapentin when needed for the bad days.
 
I forgot to say they also have Glucosamine and Chondroitin. We have a supplement called 4joints here made by Johnsons, it's for dogs but my vet okayed it for the guinea pigs, I do think it helps.
 
One of my rainbow bridge piggies had arthritis when we adopted her and she certainly did have good and bad days. We found laser therapy really helped her arthritis (alongside metacam and buorecare/tramadol)
