Hello. My fleeces are covered in sticky hay bits. I wash them in a pillowcase at 60c and leave them to blow about on my washing line but even with a vac the hay sticks in good!
My question is to those with a separate hay box, do you not put anything in your piggies beds? Mine have a pigloos and a twig archy thing but both look bare and uninviting before I put their daily hay in! I'm about to get some new fleeces though so would rather not. ......any ideas please x

I have a dining tray that has deep sides that I line with paper & put all their hay in there so that it mostly stays off the fleece :)

I have a c and c cage with a loft and I use fleece. On the bottom of the cage I have 2 hidey houses, I don't put hay in these, I have 2 hay racks on the bottom level so they can get hay without having it all over the fleece.

In the loft, I have it full of hay so they can burrow when they like. But I use news paper in the loft to absorb pee and change that daily.

The fleece on the bottom part of the cage doesn't get too messy as the hay is only in the hay racks. My piggies are quite happy to sleep in their hidey houses without the hay in there too..

Sammy and Lucky have a hay rack and a plastic basket that I fill up with hay & lay on its side. The basket is under one of those twig things, they seem to like hiding there in the pile of hay :D
They have a wooden house and I put a towel wrapped up in a blanket in it so they have something extra soft to lay on. They also have one of those cat igloos and I just put a liner/cushion in it to absorb pee. I don't put hay in any of their houses, it would get too messy :D

I forgot to mention that I had the sticky hay problem too. I found that changing the type of fleece I use helped loads. I use to have really thin fleece blankets from the range and everything got stuck to them. I got some thicker fleece blankets from primark and the hay doesn't stick as much. :)

Mine only have hay in their cat litter tray... a bit falls put but not much - unless Pippin has done a head dive into it

Many people use hay racks that can either be made or bought to keep their hay in. I personally don't mind the mess so much, so I just put a pile of hay in there and let my piggies dig in! Of course, some people don't prefer that so I would recommend either making/buying a hay rack or boxing off a specific area, such as getting a tiny plastic tub or drawer and putting the hay in there. Many different people do it many different ways.

I have a 1x2 coroplast tray that I fill with bedding to use as a kitchen area. That's where the hay rack is, and it keeps virtually all of the hay off of the fleece in the main area of the cage because I don't use hay anywhere else. My girls sleep in their pigloos fine without any hay in them.

I tend to switch my cage around every week or so and noticed my two like to sleep at the same end of the cage whether it's covered by fleece or hay lol. So I guess mine have no preference on the bedding, it's the all about location!

I know what you mean about the hay though - I used a new fleece the other day and it was pristine, it looked so pretty! It'll never be looking like that again though :(
