Do they still need a run if they have a large cage?

....and if so how large would that cage have to be to be ok?

I currently have two young boars in a 120 Ferplast and they come out into a large playpen in the day time for most of the day, then laptime in the evening.

I am toying with the idea of a large cage, either homemade (C&C tpye) or maybe a comercial cage or two joined somehow. Not quite sure yet. The playpen just looks messy in the room and I was thinking that maybe a larger cage may look better and be more permanent.

Thing is, if they had a large cage then there would be no room for a playpen....

I hope that makes sense, I'm kind of thinking and writing, whilst eyeing up my living room :{

all piggies need out of cage time just to stimulate there minds but you can corden off an area you don't have to have a proper run. (:

My three don't get much out of cage time, only onto the grass when it's sunny. I could have a smaller cage and have room for an occasional run, but saw that as pointless when I could fit in a permanent cage the size of a small double bed instead!

To compensate I constantly change their cage layout around, add in and take away toys so there's always something different in there.
