My boys larry & garry have been showing signs of mites from what ive read.

They scratch alot and i have seen some thining fur patches aswell a small red mark under garrys fur.

They also have been getting a little more aggitated when we pick them out.

How do we find out if theyve definatley got mites. , and do you treat it at home or do you have to make a trip to the vets ?

Thanks alot , Tommo.

Oh dear it sounds like they do. I would take them to the vet to confirm it but you cannot wait until Monday as they will be really sore and uncomfortable.

They decide to show signs just after the 28 day insurance by the pet shop runs out :x

We will have to go and get a carrier early morning and book a appointment.

Just a quick one.

How much does it cost for mites ? Do they diagnose them with it , give you the medicine then you apply ?

Just wondering as mum and me are figuring out how to split it between us.

Also theyre running around fine and wheek for veggies etc but i heard they do act normally with mites.

Also is theyre any tips on making it relativley stress free for them , first ever trip to the vets as my dogs never had any problems apart from when i was little so I'm kinda worrying :/

Sorry I have not been through this myself. All I know is it must be treated soon.

Hope someone can reply to my questions :0 really worried :/

i was told you can buy mite treatment stuff and treat them yourself , and i heard it brings no harm to them if they havent got them and you treat them ?

Problem is how do you know it is mites and not a fungal infection?

Ive looked around the web and all post suggest its lice as my mum said she has seen some dandruff like flakes on them and they have been acting like they have lice so that may be a possibilty ?

I thought my Walter had mites, and paniced like crazy ony to find out it was a wee bit of scurvey.

If your not sure what it is then go to the vet, it doesn't hurt to treat them for mites even if they haven't got it but what will cause harm is treating them for the wrong thing and leaving the real problem to just drive them crazy. You'll have to decide for yourself how bad it is and if it needs an emergency vet or if they'll be fine until you can get to a normal vet.

To answer your questions though the price is totally dependant on the vet, you'll probably be looking at a consultation fee then the fee for the meds. If your lucky your vet might let you off the consultation fee as it's your first time or might just charge for one. The price of meds will depend on what they've got. I got mite treatment off the Internet for a little under £20 but vets normally put a little bit onto this so you'll have to wait and see. What happens from there depends of treatment if it is mites and they are having the injection the vet will do it and you will have to come back at a later date to have the second injection. But if they use the spot on the vet will probably apply the first one then give you the rest and tell you how and when you should repeat.

i agree, it's best to just confirm to make sure, cause treating it for the wrong thing might harm them.
