Do they chew wires and carpet like hamsters?

Hiya,

Just thinknig about getting a guinea pig, but we have had hamsters in the past, but they always chewed the carpets and all the wires - it drove me crazy!

Do Guinea Pigs do this too?

hey...
ive never know them to chew carpets but i wouldnt put it past them...!
as for wires mine will chew them if they get hold of them but it will take 5 mins just to tie everything up high..
mine chewed through my phone cord the other day...!

I'm pretty sure its something they do when there bored so if there out of reach and youve got toys and other things to entertain them I'm sure they wont go out of their way to get at them...!

mine have never chewed bars but a couple of mine will try chew the carpet when their having floor time. cheeky monkeys! rolleyes
oh and guinea pigs prefer to live in pairs or groups

One of mine (ironically named Nibbles ) chewed through a computer mouse before. rolleyes

All rodents have the urge to chew. Their teeth grow continuously, they need to gnaw to keep them from overgrowing. It's a really natural instinct for them. I've found what they chew is up to the individual. Two of my pigs have never ruined my house. The third completely destroyed every doorframe in the play space, as high as she could reach! She apparently thought they were delicious! LOL!

One of my pigs does try to pull up the carpet from time to time. Luckily it's a short pile carpet and she never makes much progress before giving up.
