We have noticed recently that Mabel seems to have a favourite song... ha ha!
She squeaks like mad when it comes on. She also seems to listen intently to music sometimes.
She doesn't seem scared, as she is normally very quick to do a runner if something spooks her.
It is very funny, I'm going to try and video her! :) So sweet!

We did a random test earlier as we weren't sure whether she just happened to be getting a bit overexcited when the song was on...
Same song, we turned it up quite loud and then randomly muted it, she was going berserk wheeking! :D
So here's Mabel's favourite song of the moment, maybe we should do a large scale study and see if other piggies like it?! Ha ha!

Ohhh ALSO I read online that the newest Justin Timberlake song sounds like it has piggy wheeking in the background... it TOTALLY does!
We're going to test Mabel's reaction to this tomorrow! :D :D :D

I don't know if mine like music but they purr when I whistle lol

I would love to know whether Guinea Pigs like music. Apparently, the place they go to boarding plays them radio 2 . I am wondering whether I should be putting some music on for them. I am happy to try the tracks suggested above but would also appreciate any further suggestions.

My piggies like anything with pan flute (racial memories perhaps?), Pharrel Williams, Adele, Jason Mraz, Enya, Enigma & Aloe Blacc. None of it my taste in music, so they have their own playlist that I leave playing for them when I am out. They've gotten so used to it I ask "who wants music?", their heads pop up & when the playlist starts they pancake.

My old piggie utterly hated eminem but he grew used to it as mummy liked his songs so much.

... I'm not a big music lover myself but, if proven that it is beneficial to GPs, am happy to develop a piggie playlist

What an ace thread :) Putt used to like Olly Murs (someone has too) If he was on TV she would come out of her wooden house... It never failed to make us laugh.

:)) They have their own playlist! Brilliant.

Just don't let them see your itunes password else you'll be in for a huge bill I reckon.... Gonna have to have words about Enya (shudders) though :)) just not right....

That's why they have their own playlist & it gets played when I'm not there, so I don't have to shudder when Enya sings! It took me months to figure out which music they like. They certainly don't like my playlist. Mind you, my playlist is what I play in the car on my ipod shuffle & it's far from relaxing music else I'd fall asleep at the wheel!

haha fab thread, I'm laying in bed just played the Justin Timberlake song, I can hear my boys in the next room jabbering away, perhaps they can hear the background piggy noises :-)

I am at work all day so was wondering if its a good idea to leave the radio on whilst we are out for the our two female Guinea pigs or do they prefer quiet?

Ours get silence all day, well I say silence.... Our foster piggie doesn't ever shut up lol :)

Ours don't have music either, per say. When we're at home we tend to stick music or radio on so I like them to have peace to chatter to each other when we're out.

I do have a piggy cover-version of Helter Skelter by The Beatles that I enthusiastically (but tunelessly) perform to mine on occasion though:

"When I get to the bottom, I go back to the top of the cage, where I stop and I turn and I nibble some hay, then I stop and I wheek and I popcorn agaaaaaaaaaaaaaaain, YEAH YEAH YEAH......"

*blushes* and that's my geeky confession of the week!

I'm getting inspiration from your posts. I'm afraid I used to listen to a lot of The Stranglers in my youth - don't think that's the sort of music to play to my piggies. Anyone have any ideas on what sort of classical music piggies might like?

My Zebadee (RIP 2010) liked music. He'd come and lie in the middle of his pen and listen whilst my husband played the piano. He did the same whilst I was sewing up in his room if I have various musical sound tracks etc on.

His favorites however had him wheeking along with the music. He'd always start joining in when my husband played the 'All Creatures Great and Small' theme music on the piano. He never joined in when we had the DVD on, only with the piano version. He also 'sang along' to a track from 'Lord of the Rings - the Musical' stage show CD. It's called Lothlorien and part of it is very highly pitched. I wondered if he could hear something in it that humans couldn't?

Sounds like you have some beautiful memories of Zebadee, your musical pig :-)

For classical music mine seem to like the Strauss waltzes - Blue Danube, Tales of the Vienna Woods - & also Brahms lullaby. I happen to like Grieg's Peer Gynt suite, but the piggies don't!

Aw I hope other piggies like music too :) Mabel does seem more active when there's music on... we've been debating leaving the radio on when we're not in!

Brilliant, I love it! I'm glad I'm not the only one to do piggy cover versions! Ours get my adaptation of "The Monkees" show theme song - "Hey, hey, we're the squeakers! And people say we're squeaking around! But we're too busy eating, to put anybody down!"

I keep meaning to work out some more words sometime, but that's as far as I've got!

Our piggies seem to like being sung to, but they don't like it if anything with a loud "Boom, Boom" or techno type beat comes on on the television. They go "drrrrrrrrr" and seem very unhappy. But they do seem to enjoy listening to my husband playing the piano, even though it needs tuning!

My piggies seem to like Let It Go from Frozen :D They are Disney princesses after all (their names are Ariel and Aurora) :P

when i come in the door and they hear my voice they go nuts even though there upstairs x

I'm sure it must be something to do with the sound effects on the song I posted above, we've tested it numerous times and every time Mabel goes crazy wheeking. Unless Lorde is some sort of guinea pig whisperer?!
