I was sitting quietly and could hear a very quiet, regular sound coming from the piggies cage. It sounded a bit like dripping water. Anyway I got up to investigate and found it was Dougal. He was resting but making this little noise and his body was jerking slightly as he did it. He got up and ran into his house and peeked out at me, still doing it.

It seemed for all the world like mild hiccups. Has anyone else witnessed this? He's stopped now and it was not causing him any distress whatsoever.

One of mine (haven't spotted which yet) has taken to scoffing his veg too quickly and making a horribly frightening hiccup/coughing sound at tea time, but I've never seen them get proper spells of hiccups except when one of my boars was already ill. Found this old thread with some very trustworthy forum members assuring it's normal, though. :)

Some of mine have occasionally had "heaving hiccups" ,where the whole body lurches forward violently and they look like they are trying to throw up - this looks quite scary, but is normal - doesnt happen very often and none of my 3 year olds has ever had it.

Yeah, mine have had hiccups before, I think sometimes they just eat too quickly!

That could be why, then. They had just had their veggies and Dougal is always pushing to the front, afraid that Hamish might get his share. :))
