Hello

I am getting some piggies at the end of September, and as I am a new piggie owner I will be buying everything from scratch.

I am looking into runs at the moment, but am wondering whether this is something I need to do yet? Will they get any use out of the run or can I leave it until next Spring?

Advice much appreciated!

I dont think you need one right at the moment because your (to be) guinea pigs wont get much use of it because of the weather. That is unless you have a clean garage/shed that you might use so they get some exercise! Good Luck With Your Piggies! cant wait to see pictures!

I think it would be a good idea to get a run because the pigs can go out in there until probably early October. Also if you get an indoor/outdoor run you will be able to put it up in your house so the pigs can have a run indoors x

You probably won't need one till next year :) what kind of cage are you getting? I have a metal indoor one and until I got my run I used the top of the cage and put it on the grass, so they had somewhere to run about

Perhaps you could look for a second hand run on the freeads or try and get one that can do double up as an indoors run in winter - all you'd need is a plastic floor cover and perhaps a cheap fleece for indoors.

Thanks, that's helpful, I will consider my options. They will be in a hutch inside an enclosed verandah. Maybe I need to try and get something which will double up as an indoor run for the winter then, I hadn't thought of that.

congratulations on getting your first piggys :) a run is a definate must, if the weathers bad and mine don't get to play out and munch grass they sulk! but you can get indoor runs for them to excersise in bad weather too, http://www.animalsource.co.uk/rabbi...ixie-nylon-run-with-removable-base-3176-p.asp that one says you can remove the bottom so they can munch grass outside in it too. but i'd advise you to get a wooden one, they're safer x

I have to add to this that these dont look particulary cat safe so you'd have to keep a very close eye on your pigs if they were in the garden in this xx

Yes I got a (cheap) metal one in the end, they will be closely watched while they are in it anyway, and hopefully I will upgrade them next year - there have been a lot of outgoings this month as I have bought everything from scratch! Can't wait to finally meet the boys tomorrow :<>

Aw I bet you're not going to sleep tonight if you're anything like me, it's too exciting!
Looking forward to 'meeting' your new piggies. Can we have lots of photos when they've settled in please?
