Not sure if this is the right section for this question. Can’t find much info on Google.

In the last year I’ve gotten very into houseplants and I currently have around 35. Of course this then attracts bugs (along with living next to fields!). I take lots of measures to deter bugs but it’s par for the course with houseplants. My question is, do any plant bugs affect piggies? I am currently dealing with springtails which don’t hurt plants but I’m worried they could hurt the piggies.

Hi

Most plant bugs do not affect guinea pigs but please remove your piggies from the room whenever you apply sprays with pesticidal chemicals (risk of inhaling them as aerosols) and ideally air the room before returning them; especially closer to the cage. If you yourself have an issue with a biting pest, then it is likely that your piggies also may - but this is rare. Springtails don't harm piggies at all.

How to Get Rid of Springtails | Planet Natural

Springtails are totally harmless to any animal, they like to feed on mould and decomposing vegetable matter. They most likely won’t even go near your guinea pigs as they like a damp environment. In fact, it is thought that springtails can sometimes help to prevent mould and fungus related issues with houseplants. You could get a carnivorous plant (sundews will eat the small things) as a natural pest control method that would eat pests such as fungus gnats and fruit flies if they cause an issue.

Sundews are great for dealing with tiny fruit flies which often breed amongst peat and compost too
