Hey everyone -

My piggies have been out of chew toys, I stopped giving them the dyed sticks as they were turning their pee strange colours, and started giving them the regular oxbow hay sticks to chew on; however work limits me going to the pet store as I always seem to get off when they close. I’m noticing my Harvey’s teeth might need to be gnawed down a little bit, what can I give him to munch on right now until I can get to the pet store? Is there anything safe to give them?

Crunchy veg like celery or carrot can help.
I understood that good hay was one of the best things too.
Pellets should help.Jemimah likes to chew her wooden hidey too.

I’m sure the experts will be along with good advice later

@Barnyard Boars Do you feed them hay? If they get a sufficient amount of hay to eat then they don't need anything else to wear down their teeth. Anything you give them is a treat.

If you do feed hay and their teeth are still growing too long then they have a dental issue which needs to be treated by a good guinea pig vet.

Guinea pigs do have long teeth naturally compared to other animals so please Google a few photos before deciding to get them trimmed as teeth that are too short will cause further dental issues and problems eating.

Oh perfect! I wasn’t getting them trimmed, I’d always have them checked out before deciding that, I just wanted to make sure I didn’t get to that part! This is good to hear, thank you!
