After joining this forum I have totally fallen in love with the C&C cages and I'm defiantly going to get one for my 2 boys. Seen a set up on Ebay for about £50 but also looking into trying to source stuff locally a bit cheaper.

Looking around for similar grids I was in my local 99p store and found some metal cooling grids and was wondering if this would be suitable? They have plenty of height so no escaping piggies, they are longer than square so would take less grids and worked out would only need 17 to make a really decent size pen & loft. I worked out a way to safely and securely fasten them together. All I'm really wondering is if the metal will be safe for my piggies. I really can't see a problem as its not plastic covered bars, pretty much the same type of metal you get in normal cages.

I would then just need to source some cortex which I will admit I'm having issues with (the c&c on ebay also does not come with the cortex) and a ramp but I have some guttering I can adapt for that.

Do you think this DIY option would work? Think I'm currently more excited about this new set up than my boys and really just want to get it right xx

Yes, that should be fine. For the cortex, just go to your local diy shop as it will most likely have some cheaper than online shops. For a ramp, you could use a cat scratcher (extra grip) or use cortex and line it with fleece which would also be fine. Good luck with the cage, I am also making one and very excited! xx

The grids sounds ok to me!
You can get correx from Wickes if you have one near you - it's about £5 for a 2mm sheet (so you might want two). It's with the wood sheet things.

Yeah, I thought they would make a pretty good sized cage. And thanks for the tip for the correx. ill have to go look. Now just have to ask them if they have any more of the grids in stock. Only 8 on the shelf. Can you imagine when I ask them if they have 9 more! They will prob think I'm a crazy woman...lol.

Yeah, thought about this. They are really small gaps, pretty much like bars on commercial cages. The only thing they could get caught is legs but if I put the correx in with a good 3/4 inch lip like you see in the c&c setups, I'm pretty sure that would prevent trapped legs
