So hi guys as some of you may know from my previous posts,I'm going to upgrade my boar Mo to bigger cage size now he has been given a clean bill of health. I've been looking at the Midwest guinea pig habitat but it is quite expensive- the cheapest I've found it (with a lid as Mo is quite the escape artist)is £65. I know that doesn't sound that much but I'd have to get a new water bottle, hides hole and toys to go in as well as a new fleece. So I've been looking into DIY cages which would also mean I could design it in such a way so that it still fits where he is now. I'm slightly unsure as to what wood is safe to build it with? I hear that pine is bad so is there a wood that you recommend? I say wood because I'd like it ideally not to look too 'prison like' and Mo has a thing for chewing on bars when he's peckish so that'd stop that. Have any of you made your own wooden cages and if so possibly you could share pictures? Thanks guys this thread is more to do with my curiosity as a Midwest cage is still a big possibility x

Hello. Diy cages are fun i have made 3 now! Personally i used 18mm mdf, acrylic/polycarbonate, padded vinyl and untreated pine strip wood. Heres a link to my second (and best build).
