Now the nights are getting chilly, I want my girls in the shed to have more spaces to snuggle up in lots of hay and keep warm. However I can't really do that with fleece and the maintenance and washing of the fleece will be harder for me in the winter months.

So I'm looking at switching to disposable bedding over winter. I'm not really wanting to use wood shavings, maybe something softer.

Does anyone have any suggestions or reccomendations? I haven't used anything other than wood shavings or fleece. I will also need to buy a big bag of whatever I use as it will take quite a lot to cover the hutch and shed.

Thanks.

Maybe you could help keep them warm with a rice filled bag,

What about Fitch?
Fitch Recycling - Fitch Pet Bedding

I've never used it but a lot of people do with good results and you can get it in massive bags as people use it for horses...

I used to use Carefresh for a while. it's pretty soft but not cheap if you are looking at doing a whole shed but is really absorbent

Thank you! I'll look into that. I've used Carefresh in the past, I agree it's great for absorption but too expensive :(

Do you have a Kennelgate or Equine Supplier near you ? Kennelgate sell Aubiose

I brought Aubiose from a local farm shop and have to say in the past 2-3 weeks of using it I'm sold!
I use this in my hutches, its very absorbant and goes along way,i get it from a local farm shop .it can be dusty for some, but ive not found that, highly recommend it.i put basic bliss on top as soft.

I suggest a cheap non-scented paper based bedding. I heard good things about fitch and kaytee. If you ever get Kaytee, make sure that it is unscented. Hope this helps:nod:

I would use puppy pads with hay on top plus in their houses of hideys use some paper based bedding such as tea bag bedding or fitch :) x

Thanks for all the replies! I do have a Kennelgate fairly local so I'll travel there and see what they have.

Thanks again. I'll keep you posted and show photos of what I end up doing with the shed :) I think they will love having piles of hay to snuggle in.

:D The best paper bedding I ever used was "Cosi N Dri". It is very soft and absorbent and can be composted. Only problem, it can turn out to be expensive. Also, it seems to be hard to find nowadays.

I used Fitch before changing to fleece and I thought it was brilliant! So soft and looked nice and cosy. Also very absorbent and easy to scooped up when cleaning out :)

i like megazorb, easibed and aubiose
my favourite is probably easibed and its the cheapest out the 3 i think too megazorb is the comfiest tho :)

I use Back 2 Nature paper pellets with hay. It's very absorbent and controls odour. It's compostable and it is comfortable on feet too.

I'm loving ecobale at the moment. It's a cardboard bedding. It's dust free and doesn't get stuck in their coats or on fleece beds etc and doesn't get caught in my boars bum
