Hello,

We took our Guinea pig, Bo, to the vet yesterday because he was acting a little strange and they took an x-ray. Bo has a dislocated tailbone (coccygeal vertebrae after a quick google search), the bones do not appear broken on the x-ray.

Has anyone experienced this before? And how was your Guinea pig treated if they did have this? The vet had never seen this before.

Bo is currently on anti-inflammatory and pain medication, G.I. medication to counteract what the pain medication does to him, and we are giving him critical care to make sure his eating stays up.

Have a good day,
Joe

Hi and welcome

This is very unusual indeed; I have not come across it, either. Your piggy must have fallen really hard on their bum and is likely somewhat bruised, too. :(

All the best for a good recovery. I guess you have been given painkillers?

Here is the x-ray.

Yes, Bo is currently on pain killers.

Bo also has arthritis, that you can see in his knee, as he is 5 and 1/2 to 6 which might make it easier for something to happen.

Aw, poor Bo, I damaged my coccyx many years ago and it’s extremely painfu, glad he’s got medication x
Get well soon Bo x
