Disinfecting water bottles

You can use Milton to disinfect them. Make up the solution and pop the bottles and caps in for at least 15 minutes.

(otherwise cleaning with warm soapy water and a bottle brush (or putting rice in with the water and giving a really good shake))

I have three bottles. Two actively in the cage and one as a reserve. I clean the reserve bottle with soap and water with white rice (I follow Little Adventures on Youtube). However, I’m not sure of this is the right way to clean them?!

Let’s wait for experts to weigh in on the topic.

As with so many things there are many different ways and no right or wrong way to clean a water bottle. The most important thing is that it gets cleaned regularly including the spout.
I use 3 different methods :
1. Warm soapy water and a bottle brush. Rinse well.
2. Small amount of warm water and some dried rice grains and give it a thoroughly good shake and twirl. Rinse well after removing the rice and water.
3. Small amount of warm water and a sheet of kitchen roll paper stuffed inside the bottle - give it a good shake and a twirl. Rinse well after removing the dirty paper and water.
I have a teapot spout brush for cleaning the nozzles. I also use cotton buds / Q tips to clean the spouts. Rinse after cleaning.

The method I use depends how I feel and how grubby the bottle looks

Usually I just use washing up liquid and hot water and lots of shaking then rinsing, but if they look slimy then I use Steradent denture cleaning tablets and an old bendy toothbrush on the bottle, then cotton buds for the spout, before again a very thorough rinse and shake in hot water!
