Hi guys, just wondering if i can get some help or advice... to be honest we don't know what to do.

I have 2 disfunctional boys who live next to each other and over the past year they have become closer, but they r not ok with out the divider ( they are getting better tho). I was hoping to get them friends, but when we visited our local rescue herbie was very upset when put in with other males, he was attacked as a baby before we rehomed him.

Herbert and Sven were introduced when we got Sven about 8 months ago, when Sven was about 6mths old and Sven nipped herbie on the lip. Since then they have lived next to each other.
They rumbled and chuttered through the bars for months but during floor time each would go to the others step to get closer to the other.
The chittering in cage has all stopped now but they r as interested as ever in each other. So we have tried reintroducing them recently and they have sat eating together for maybe 20 mins with lots of chittering before ultimately rearing up at which point I step in and separate... The key being basil and lots of it..

Ideally they would get on but I'm afraid of injury so possibly step in to soon...

They each have a ferplast 120 but they used to share a split 8x2 c and c.

I don't fancy ending up with 4 independent guineas lol and don't really want to drive the boys mad with the smell of sows if they can't interact it seems almost cruel lol.

They deserve companionship and have both come on leaps since they moved next to eachother... Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

It could be that they r just happy as they r, but they r both so interested in each other it seems like they may want more...

It sounds actually that they are happy as they are - each with his own territory but with interaction through the bars for ongoing companionship and stimulation. There is a number of fallen-out adult boars like that - can't live together but can't live apart as they are still firmly bonded. :mal:

It is great that you have given them the chance to make their own choices, though, so you now know where they stand and that you are doing right by them! ;)

Have answered now; I hit the post button by accident.

Ok that's a relief, I just wonder if that's enough for Sven. Herbie is fine, he's in love with the new puppy and cuddles the cage bars when she come to say hello. And the hamster that he chases when she's in her ball. Sven enjoys the hamster chasing too but is too skittish to get close to anyone. He has gotten better at short lap times and purrs away. If Sven got a friend would it upset Herbert? Or is it enough having herbie next door

You can see whether Sven would be happier with a dated live-in friend if you wish to; ultimately, it will be Sven's choice. Herbie sounds certainly very content as it is and Sven doesn't sound unhappy or bored, either, so it is very much down to how you yourself feel about it.
