Hi everyone,

In the last week my guinea pig has been less active than usual, she also ate less pellets. She doesn't eat a lot of hay usually, so it's pretty normal. She keeps eating vegetables but leaves very small pieces. She hasn't lost weight; only 4 grams in this week.

Four or five days ago, her left eye started to tear. She also squeezes it often. I thought it might be a dental problem. I tried to book a vet appointment but she's on vacation and will only be back on Tuesday.
I am attaching a photo of the incisors before and after with the dates. I noticed that they have changed a bit but I can't tell if they are too long. Please give me your opinion about this too.
But what worried me even further is the fact that a few minutes ago I noticed she's losing hair around her eye. I haven't seen her scratch and I'm pretty sure of this.
But then I wonder how could it be a dental problem? Couldn't it be something else?

Because her teeth might make her weep but they don't explain the hair loss.
Here is a photo of the eye. I know it looks bad but the other is perfect. Looking at her from the other side she looks like a different guinea pig. Other than that there is NO nasal discharge. The nose is clean.

Please tell me if anything comes to your mind. Besides, do you think it can wait until the end of next week? Thanks in advance.

The best thing to do is to get her checked out by a vet sooner rather than later. If she’s not eating enough hay then you need to step in and syringe feed her. Pellets and veg only make up 20% of their diet so weight loss is down to not eating enough hay.

You can use the pellets she has now - soak in hot water and syringe once cooked enough. You will also need to switch to weighing her once daily to keep track of her weight. You’re aiming to help her maintain as a minimum.

I'd definitely get her to the vet ASAP. It may be the roots of her molars causing the issues with her eye as opposed to her incisors, or it could be something completely different!
The running of her eye causing her face to be constantly wet could be causing the hair to fall out.
Is there another vet you can see?
