A bit of a disaster happened today - my 14-year-old son broke his right elbow during PE. He is left-handed but has his Key Stage 3 SATS next week. I called a friend who is an Assistant Principal at his college however the first time the exams officer will know about the injury is about 15 minutes before he does his first Science paper at 8.45am on Tuesday. What will probably happen - if it can be put in place quickly - is that he will have a teaching asistant sitting nearby to help with all those two handed tasks we take for granted, like using a ruler, opening a pencil case, using a calculator, turning the pages of the exam paper, etc. He won't be able to hold down his paper properly either.
He has previously been assessed and given permission to use a laptop for all the English papers on Thursday and Friday (dyspraxia related significant handwriting difficulties). This is more of an issue because he will either have to hand write them after all or type one-handed. He is very upset about this. He was expected to do very well!
