I reheated the two snugglesafes at 7am and now at 9am, they are barely giving off any heat at all. They are warm if I put my hand inside the cover but to touch outside I can barely feel anything - whether it feels different for the piggies? It’s not even particularly cold in the boys shed (14 degrees vs the outside temp of 6) so I am concerned that they aren’t going to keep them warm for the stated 10 hours when it does get colder. Am I doing something wrong or are my expectations of them wrong? They are being heated in the microwave for the stated time.

Sorry I have never used them, hoping someone who has will see this thread soon :)

Anyone able to give expert advice on getting the most out of the snugglesafes?

They are slow release heat and not designed to get very hot (which pets wouldn't appreciate as they would move off).

Heat the snugglesafes singly and leave them to stand in the microwave for a minute before you take them out.
Also always check whether you use the right length for the strength of your microwave. I have to heat my snugglesafes longer with our new microwave.

I have two which we use when it is really cold, they are still warmish after 10 hours in the cages. The only thing I can think is to check that the power rating of your microwave is the correct one against the heating time on the instructions.

Thanks both. Mine are definitely stone cold after 10 hours. they are outside (in the shed, and the hutch has a thermal cover over) so i wasn’t sure if that has a bearing, I had hoped not given they are designed to be used outside! I am definitely heating them as instructed - singly, and for the right amount of time for my microwave wattage - but my microwave is older now, so I wonder if that could be part of the problem and that maybe I need to do it for a touch longer.

Hmmm, very strange. I’ve had the same snugglesafe for more years than I can remember. I do it for 5 mins for a 900 watt. And it comes out very tostie. I use a cover and put under newspaper and I can still feel heat through it. Yes I would suggest trying it for longer in your microwave.

Just to add we also have one which we put in our outdoor hutch each evening and its usually still vaguely warm (not hot but warm still) in the morning. So I think something is definitely going wrong with yours of it's cold after two hours. Does your microwave have different settings (like high, medium etc?)

No it doesn’t have any settings. It’s a fairly basic microwave - I only got it to have one but it doesn’t get used much so never spent much money on one...it was literally used to heat up the odd tin of baked beans and now only used for the snuggle safes! I’ve not had to use them since I posted this (staying warm enough in the shed for the last few nights) but I will definitely need to use them from Friday night onwards as the night time temps don’t look good, I am going to heat for a little longer when i next use them and see what happens.

I wonder if the design of them has changed recently - is the quality still as good? On the website it says " Do not use in microwaves which "hotspot". " So perhaps your microwave is one of the hot spotting types or maybe your Snuggle safe is faulty

Thanks. I have actually solved it, they just needed heating for a little bit longer. I put it in at 9pm last night and I checked them at 6am this morning and there was still some warmth there.
