Edward was just over 1100g in the prime of his life. He’s 6 now and my vet has checked him over and put his weight loss down to the aging process. He was a steady 900-950g for quite a few months but at todays weigh in, he was 885g Should I be worried or is this him just getting older? He’s eating, drinking and acting normal

I agree, as piggies age they steadily lose weight, then stabilise then drop a little more. They seem to lose body condition and become a bit boney around the backend. Try not to worry too much if Edward is happy, eating well and acting like his normal self x

It sounds normal to me, too. I call this VPS - vanishing pig syndrome. It happens as they lose muscle mass as they get older. As long as he’s eating, drinking, pooping and generally looking happy with life I wouldn’t worry too much, Claire. It’s similar to what we see in humans becoming thinner and frailer as they age.

I have had the same experience with my boars as they have aged. As long as the vet found nothing wrong then I would say he is just dropping muscle weight with age.
