what can i do to help bring her out of her shell? i'm really struggling i don't know what to try i've had her for 3 weeks i don't know if she's missing her home she came from or what it is... she doesnt seem to want to do anything i try and bond with her offering her treats, talking to her, stroking her gently but she just hides everytime she see's me :( she does purr every now and then but then hides again, i wonder if it has something to do with where she came from being chewed by the others? i really don't know..

any suggestions? i just really want to help her settle in

thanks x

It can take quite a while for a piggy to relax in their new surroundings. Just keep talking to her and giving her treats and I'm sure she will settle down.

i'm just worried she'll make herself ill she just sits in the corner staring :( little herbie was nothing like that he's always been so friendly and inquisitive and plays, chews, nibbles anything .. i know she's eating and drinking so i suppose she's well as far as that goes but will she get depression? i'm worried she may be lonely?

If she's young and was the underdog in her group, she's probably very shy and a bit downtrodden. Three weeks isn't a very long time for a guinea pig to get used to you. Some of mine have taken literally months. Keep handling her little and often and most importantly, talk to her when she's in her cage. She'll get used to you eventually and learn to love you, promise :)

she has a friend his cage is next to hers he squeaks at her and rumbles when she's near his side of her cage but she doesn't seem interested in mingling with him its like she's in a daze all the time :( they will go together once he's nutered but for the time being they're next door neighbours .. if i wanted to get a friend for her what age lady would i need so that they could bond ? and would she get picked on again? is there anywhere near stoke i could adopt a lonley lady from?

If you want to get her a same gender companion, get her one that is as young as possible; so she's clearly the boss.

However, as she is so shy, it might be best, if you could take her to a rescue where she could make her own choice (neutered male or female); that's always worked best for me. In the worst case, she might not like close company at all!

I wish you all the best; please remember that three wees is still a short time in terms of settling a guinea pig!
