Ive had to put separate my two guine pigs as one of them has pneumonia. The are in different rooms, but I keep the door open so they can hear and talk to each other. However when they are in the same room their cage has to have a divide cos they hate each other!

The non sick piggie is driving me crazy by escaping! He chews the connectors of his cage and shakes the grids like mad. I used cable ties to make each connector stronger but he's still at it. I dont have correx on the bottom of the cage, I have fleece, towels, newspaper and then a rubber mat, and now he's digging at them so much he's managing to get them up!

What can i do he's driving me crazy lol! He gets floor time for max 8 hours a day, I leave his cage open all day. He has a hay rack, and big hay box with treats or food hidden in, he has those big sticks made into a tunnel type thing, he has a ball and a wooden chew thing.

Why is he doing this, and is it dangerous for his teeth!?

If he has started this behaviour since his neighbour left to the other room then his behaviour is more than likely be connected with that.

What's going through his head? Could be frustration. Wanting to see what territory the poorly guy has set up for himself. I have a pig Pepe that gets rather wound up when any of my foster pigs are having floor time, he is determined to mark where they have been in a big hormonal flurry of biting the bars and racing up and down until its his time to come on and Mark the place as his own!

It must be connected to them being apart, I think you are right. At the moment, neither of them are out. Both are eating breakfast and the grids are all closed. But he keeps throwing himself back at the grids! The thing is he is usually the quite non agressive pig!

I wish I could put them back together, they have been apart for so long no wonder he is going dippy! Why they can't just live in peace and stop being so territorial I do not know :))

Ever fancied boar dating at a rescue for them? I'm sure there happy living side by side, but just an idea i thought i would bring up.

x

I would love to do that! The RSPCA down here wont entertain the idea, and the rescues that are close to me normally have piggies in pairs given to them. I am on a few lists if individual boars come in, but Cornwall just doesn't have the same sort of rescues that other parts of the country have x
