Hello! I've really tried cutting my guinea pigs nails. But they refuse to let me pick them up. Any advice?

I give my pigs a bit of veggies while I cut their nails. It calms them down a bit.

Every time I get remotely close to pick her up she bolts. The other one is way too scared for me to pick her up she doesn't like anyone touching her. Not even the other guinea pig.

Are you trying to pick them up from the cage? If, so maybe try putting them in a hidey and pick them up with the hidey.
I don’t know if they are on the floor, I usually don’t pick them up cause they move too much. Maybe someone else could help you if that’s the case, I honestly don’t know.

I'll try the hidey thing. I'll just have to think about how to get them to show me their little paws. They love tucking them under their Lil fat it's so cute.

When you have managed to pick your piggy up, get a helper and wrap piggy up in a towel with the paw you want to cut the nails on poking out of the towel. Have your helper hold them gently but securely with piggy's back against their stomach while you snip the nails, unwrap piggy and repeat the process until all 4 nails are done. This is how I had to do Christian and Meg to begin with now they are used to it. Hope this helps.

It’s been years since we got Nora and I still have to wrap Nora in a towel she HATES having her nails cut. I also have to make sure someone puts a hand under her head with a small towel wrapped around the hand because when you do her front nails she will nip you. But, she’s always been my feisty one. Our other piggie Beatrice could care less now.

Bill is a total diva when it comes to nails, I cut his front nails in the bowl! He will sit quite still and let me cut them while he is in the bowl but NOT on my lap. This all happens to the sound of loud shrieks and that’s as soon as he sees the nail clippers. I have never clipped his nails too short so why he is so vocal I don’t know.
Ted couldn’t care less! Different as chalk and cheese 😆335D7B85-BC3C-411B-879C-CB467DA30879.jpeg0CF08E76-DCCF-41F1-837F-13D7A2515D0A.jpeg

I second the helper and the towel. I’ve had pigs that couldn’t care less and one (looking at you Delilah) who would shriek like she was being murdered every time. I had to shut the windows in case someone called the RSPCA! 😂

I put mine in a plastic bin and use a towel to slightly cover them while I work on cutting their nails. It takes only about a minute to cut all of Lara's nails.
However, it takes 5 minutes or more to cut my boy Finn's nails becuase he protests so I have to give him some time in between front and back nails, then right to left nails.

This is a picture of a plastic bin I use for for nail cuts and haircuts. My boy Finn is in his tunnel getting ready for his bum haircut here.
