hi all:)
After reading a lot I came to notice that different countries have different conventions about how much veggies to feed to the GP
In the UK is around 1 cup/ 50 grams
In USA is like 100gr, same than other latioamerican websites I have seen,. I live in Germany and here the most common thoughts about " Hay is the 80% of the diet "does not apply! Here you hear advices like give enough veggies and herbs so they have enough till the next feeding round. They don't care much about quantities in grams.. they say piggies do not suffer from getting lots of fresh food( like you hear everywhere) and because they get fresh food they don't eat too much hay which is totally fine. And most try to not feed pellets at all.

Why do you think are so many different ways of thinking? Are there any scientific papers showing the " correct" way?

The woman from the shelter from which I adopted mine, had suuuper old piggies on her own that had access to veggies the entire day. And they were doing super!.. I wanted one piggie that looked gorgeous and she said no she is mine is not in adoption and she is 8 years old
I could not believe it!

I personally do feed a wetter diet than recommendation.
So the guide is 75% hay, 15% veg, 5% pellets.

My piggies absolutely do have 75% hay - it’s always available to them. In summer that 75% goes up with the inclusion of access to grazing on the grass (they are on grass up to 14 hours a day with hay provided as well and they can freely choose between hay or grass).

I however do feed a bit more than one cup of veg to each of my pigs. It is probably 20% of their daily intake.
I don’t tend to feed pellets much though and this gives me leeway with the veg but instead I include dried forage in their diet, making up the other 5%.
The recommendation for pellets is no more than tablespoon per pig. I feed each pig just five pellets but only twice a week.

Of course that’s is all rough estimates and I certainly don’t routinely measure their veg but I know it is more than a cup!

So lucky that your piggies get access to fresh grass in the garden! I would love that!

I definitely give a bit more than a cup of veggies ( very very varied) per pig and different types of hay 24/7.... it is hard for me to understand some people saying do not give more than 1 leave of lettuce and 1 cm carrot or cucumber per day otherwise they will have problems...in my opinion problems they will have if they don't get enough nutrients! So this is why I stand more on the side of people that feed them vegetables and fresh herbs without so much fear because they do not over eat and they don't have digestion problems in my experience so far( Of course always taking care of the calcium intake and oxalate)

Mine get a scant handful of pellets each day between them both.
I do tend to feed a bit more than a cupful of veg each day and they have access to unlimited hay.
I’ve only had one pig with a tendency to have soft poops occasionally.
My current pair are prolific poopers of perfect little poops so I think they thrive on the diet
