Just wondering if anyone has a guinea pig with different colored irises of the eye. Our new piggie, Leela, has an 'eyepatch' marking over one eye/ear area that is red/brown and the eye on that side appears to be the usual dark eye- big black pupil, rim of dark brown iris. The other side of her face is white and the eye on that side appears to be blue, with a big black pupil and a blue/grey thin iris around. I know that some pigs have blue eyes but have never seen one, and I've never seen a pig with two different colored eyes before. The pupil itself appears healthy and normal- it's not an injury or a cataract (Sundae had cataracts, so I am familiar with what they look like as they develop.) She does see out of the eye- I have seen her narrow it if one of the kids makes a sudden movement on that side that she isn't expecting. I tried to get a picture, but couldn't get a clear one without flash (which just makes her eyes look shiny!)

I edited to add a picture... this is the clearest one I could get. I'll try again later in natural light.

I do! Your lovely piggy there is much like my boy with the similar eye colour, except he has a black patched lid, not brown. He's also sadly blind or at least very poorly sighted in that eye which does give it a much more glazed look too. It stands out a mile as a result of his colouring and the fact it's not the same as his working eye! Weirdly, my almost chimeric boy has black eyes on both sides?! Nature is a wonderfully odd thing!

I did :( My late Ziggy pig in my avatar had one black eye & the one on her white side was blue, hence her name was Ziggy Stardust as a tribute to Bowie :)
