Hi there

I’ve noticed that my boy has Diarrhea andalso water that was on his fur next to his eye. Probably a cold. But I’ve cleaned his bed just to make sure and just checked on him, thepoo seems to be just liquid so far I haven’t seen any formed poo.
I was thinking of moving him on to the recovery food to at least try and get him some food down him he hasn’t had no vegetables as I took him off them just in case
What should the recovery food look like? Mushy and thick?

I am sorry your piggy is unwell.
This is actually a serious condition in guinea pigs, and you need to step in with support feeding and remove all veggies from the diet.
He needs access to unlimited hay at all times.
We have a full guide to digestive disorders here:

Digestive Disorders: Diarrhea - Bloat - GI Stasis (No Gut Movement) And Not Eating

honestly I’mtrying to look in the guide to see how the food should look, whether it to be thick or runny? I’d thought thick better? And do I put it into his side of his mouth? So it doesn’t go to the lungs?

Here is our step-by-step syringe feeding guide. Complete Syringe Feeding Guide

Please offer as much water as your piggy is taking on willingly in addition to the syringe feed. It needs to be basically loose enough to pass the syringe tip. Never give more than a piggy can hold in their mouth to prevent it from going down the wrong way and wait until the previous lot has been swallowed. That can be as much as 0.5 ml in a piggy that is actively taking feed from the syringe to 0.1 ml in a piggy that struggles to swallow.

See a vet as soon as possible as your may need subcutaneous hydration if you are dealing with runny diarrhea in addition to any medication.

So I’ve just fed him with one of them is it 1ml syringe and he’s took it all, do I feed him more or not?
He currently weighs 945g

Please feed as much as he will take, and also offer as much water.

A piggy in its prime will feed and drink the equivalent of 120 ml in a day; if your piggy is still willing to eat, you are aiming at up to 90 ml in 24 hours (including what they are eating for themselves). With very ill piggies that have stopped eating altogether you want to get at least 40-60 ml in over the course of 24 hours. You have to feed the more often the less a piggy is eating.

It is all in our syringe feeding link. ;)

Do I do the same as water? In the side of his mouth? 🙂

Hi, yes into the side of his mouth so he has a chance to chew or swallow in his own time. If you are syringing water be careful to just do small amounts so he doesn't inhale it which can cause problems. If mine have struggled with plain water I just make the food mush more runny so they get fluid that way instead, and feed as much as they will take.

I think he really does need to see a vet - too much veggies can make the poops soft, but proper runny liquid diarrhoea has a chance to be an infection that needs treatment. They can take a poo sample and test it. You are trying to keep his nutrition and fluids up with syringe feeding until you can see the vet.

Also I should say that piggies don't really get 'colds' like people do. But they can get lung infections which again need treatment. Symptoms include running noses, eyes, and difficulty breathing. Maybe he has a separate lung infection, maybe not - perhaps his symptom is just related to his tummy trouble, but the vet will be able to tell you. Good luck 💕

I just wanted to say thank you everyone for helping me

but as of12:12am Stan sadly lost his battle.
He went limp and couldn’t use his mouth or anything. I stayed with him the whole time.
I’ve lost two of my babies the same way.

I'm so sorry to hear of your losses.

I don't know how old he was, or how old the other two (or one?) were, or whether they've all passed recently, but if they have and you have other piggies, please think about whether this was something contagious. It might be something these poor guys were carrying at low levels from when you got them but which aren't noticed until they have a little drop in immunity for some reason - like age or them picking up another little infection. Any remaining piggies would still benefit from a vet visit to make sure they're healthy - you can still take in a poo sample from Stan's bedding. It's just a suggestion but it's what I would be doing. I would hate for you and any remaining piggies to have to go through this again 😪

Ollie died about six months ago.
I only have one piglet left.
sirry if I’m not very responsive
Still hurting my little heart.

Oh how insensitive of me, I'm so sorry. There's no need to reply or anything. You and your last piggy just look after each other 💕

I am so sorry for your loss. please take your time to grieve his passing.
