i have been toying with the idea of building the piggies there own indoor permanent home. i used to have a small scale one (2metres by 2 metres for 6 piggies) but after that dreaded illness last year and me losing all those animals, well everything got ripped out and burnt.

anyhow its been nearly a year since all that dreadfulness, and the three piggies we have now have been in good health for the 5 months we've had them and have recently been moved indoors for the winter.

now the little room my former piggies had has been converted into boiler/wash room....so i have now a huge free area where the bolier/washmachine/dryer/sink etc used to be...its around 2.5mx6m and i want to turn it into piggy paradise.

so I'm looking for ideas on flooring, bedding etc the previous smaller piggy paradise was wooden floored with sawdust on top, but the floor was getting wet and rotten in the poop corners...

the floor of the room is concrete.....so i was thinking of building a wooden platform ontop of that so they aint sitting on cold concrete....what can i cover the wood with to make it a bit more waterproof?

i was also toying with the idea of bringing in soil and planting it all up (like an indoor garden) with grass and piggy safe plants and veggies in areas

then i need some ideas for piggy safe (but easy to make/cheap) houses and toys...anyone got any ideas?

i dont really want to use too much fabric items (i think they will quickly get dirty or rotten) but would like the houses to be cozy.....

so basically I'm asking the experts on TGPF for some ideas......all welcome!

i have the whole winter to design and start building......theres also the added bonus that one of the walls in this room is an outside facing wall into the garden..meaning i can always cut a piggy sized hole in the wall and build an outside to the playland too for nice weather days :)))

my biggest concern is the 'poop' factor. with such a big area I'm guessing they'll poop and pee wherever they please....so if i do plant it all out..how often would i be needing to clean it all out? (as in a full clean out, not daily poop picking up)?

just an idea for the flooring, although i'm not sure if its the same where you are, lino/vinyl flooring is good and easy to wash down. you can either use on top of the wood floor or on its own, and if you buy the end of the roll you get the roll for piggy tunnels :)

if you build a garden part with soil i wouldn't clean that part, piggy poop is a great fertiliser :)

i want to come back as one of your piggies :))

I also use Lno/cushioned vinyl flooring and it is great. Warm washable and you can turn it up at the sides to stop any leaks going over the edge. Also you can cut it to exactly the size that you need.
