Hi everyone,

I unfortunately have another pig with dental issues.

He seems to be able to eat grass well but this is new to his diet. Any advice on how much I can give at a time to increase his tolerance to it? He is on Baytril and on syringe feeds so I am sure his belly isnt feeling great already but it is the only thing he has been able to eat easily on his own.

I am also new to Emeraid (not using it much still on critical care) and I am very confused as to how much to feed if I make the switch. On the critical care bag, it says three tablespoons which I split over 24hours for multiple feedings to maintain his weight. I dont quite understand the mls requirement on the back as it just depends on much water you mix in for the Emeraid. Any insight into this

When I was syringe feeding my old dental piggie Ted, Emeraid was the only one he would actually tolerate. I would just mix up to the same consistency as you would the Oxbow/Science one and see how it goes. I used to make up enough for the day too. I think they used to have a measuring scoop in the packet?
Grass is a very good substitute for hay, the silica on the surface of the leaves where’s the teeth down. I would start off with small abouts and increase if he tolerates it. All my piggies get grass everyday, I forage in the hedgerows for all sort of varieties not just lawn grass.
Plain dry porridge oats are good for piggies and easy to eat, you could put a small bowl in his cage daily. I also used to hand feed the small stick of beetroot out of salad bags, he really loved those, all worth a try x
