I posted just the other night about my boy Lionel, who is 5 and a half. He has been fluctuating in health, and had some digestive issues earlier in the week which he has since recovered from! But he is still confusing me, of course.

With age, he’s lost his ability to wheek, which I understand is not very uncommon. Recently, though, his squeaks have sounded a little deeper, maybe almost congested(?), but he has no other signs of any sort of URI. I hold him to my ear multiple times per day to have a listen, but there is no noise when he is just simply breathing— only when he’s squeaking. It’s almost like little honks. I’m going to make him a vet appointment tomorrow morning— but does anyone else have experience with this? He’s such an oddball lately, but of course I’ll do whatever I can to make sure he is ok.

Hi

I could be that the issue is sitting more in the nose and may be just a minor obstruction. Please keep in mind that the airways of a guinea pig are very small and narrow.

However, not being able to hear the sound myself and having only your own perception and assessment to go by, it is near impossible for me to do more than guess wildly.

All the best with his vet check.
