Dead mouse in hay

So. I found a small dead mouse inside a fresh bag of hay. This has never happened before. I feel terrible for the little guy.

But is the hay still safe for my girls? I don’t have a back-up bag and it’s already too late here.

maybe just get rid of the hay around it. as long as the kill seems relatively fresh it and not rotting it should be ok... hundreds of thousands of mice are killed in grain and hay harvesters around the world every year....

Yes I would get rid of the hay around the mouse, as long as it doesn’t smell it should be ok. Poor little mouse, they have no way of escaping with some if these big conbines

Still feel bad for the little one. He was just doing his mouse things, didn’t know any better!

It thankfully doesn't happen very often but very occasionally small rodents and ground nesting baby birds can get caught. It's always a bit upsetting.
