Hi all!
First post for me on here and I am a novice to keeping Guinea Pigs :)
I'd like to apologise if this is in the wrong section and I ask the admin to feel free to move it if they wish.

Ok then, we have recently acquired three boars which were born from rescue sows. We decided to name them Chas, Dave and George (photos to follow when I have worked out how to do it). Chas and George are brothers and get on fine. However, Dave is a little over friendly towards George sometimes and tries to, erm, you know! But I feel that sometimes George was enticing him a bit! {:|
Anyway, just wondered if any piggy lovers out there had any suggestions of what I can do to calm Dave down?

Cheers
Tim

Hi & Welcome to the Forum Tim!

First thing that springs to my mind is, are you sure they are all Male? It is not uncommon for samesex piggies to hump each other, so dont panic, but i have not heard of males enticing each other, but not saying its not possible or normal. Humping and rumbling is often normal beahviour in groups, its them establishing their ranks within the group, and i should think Dave is top piggy and just reminding Chas and George this.

xx

Boys will be boys eh? Nothing to worry about, you think the boys are bad. Girlies do the exact same :) before I got my new three. Pecan (who is the dom of the pair) always jumped Maple, and I'm pretty sure Pecan will do the same with the new ones. Don't panic. Can't wait to see some pics of your handsome lot.

Hiya and welcome! Another person in the Midlands!

Boars are complicated little things and their relationships can be interesting to say the least! The following link should help you understand what they are up to and when things are not ok...

I will also warn you that having three young boys together is very often a recipe for disaster as they very rarely will tolerate each other when they get into their hormonal teenage years so it pays to be prepared... It is good to have as much space as possible and at least two of everything (water bottles, food bowls hideys etc) to help avoid arguments. I don't mean to scare you but it's not nice to find yourself with three angry youngsters and no idea what's happening. Unfortunately many pet shops and some rescues will still recommend that litter mates are fine to go in groups of more than 2 when it is not often the case except in very unusual circumstances.

Any questions please ask and we will do our best to help, enjoy your boys and finding out more about these happy little creatures!

WOW!
Great response, already! :)
I just had to double check and google how to check that they are definitely all boys! Affirmative, they are. :) PHEW!
I think I have already established that Dave is the bossy 'top' piggy. Whenever I pick him up he always clambers up to my right shoulder and turns around so he can see whats going on around him, he just sits there like a parrot! Then george will snuggle up on my other shoulder with no bother between the two of them. Chaz 99% of the time is the placid one, I say 99% due to last week he was very calm being handled while I was getting him out of the hutch for the niece then suddenly he made a dash for the pond! Got him out, bathed him and gave him love for a while after, he was one very shook up piggy! :(
Apart from that, we've had no other incidents (yet - touch wood!). Chas and George are about 4 months old and Dave is a week younger.
Thank you MerryPip for the links! I will have a peek at those over the evening. I have a lot to learn and in time will find out what is 'normal' behaviour ;)

Well we are all here and alot of very experienced knowledgeable members armed with advice so just ask if there is anything else.

Poor chaz landing in the pond! though that is a blessing is disguise, he if had of left to hard ground from a great height it would have been a different story.

He jumped from 2-3 ft high onto grass then legged it. I Panicked went after him and saw him foraging about on the lilys. Dopey Chaz, don't think he'll be doing it again in a hurry! We're thinking about making the pond area a bit more secure anyway. I thought about calling him Nemo as he has the same colouring!

The problem is they are all boys under 6 months so hormones are starting to kick in. Trios sometimes work I have trios who have got into adulthood (post 15 months) and some who haven't its all down to personality as they mature. Boys will be boys and they do mount each other :))
