I have a guinea pig with the start of fungal infection on his ears. Do I put daktarin in his mouth twice daily or rub it on his ears twice daily?
His on metacam and cystease and potassium cytrate. Will it be safe to give daktarine?

Thank you

Please see a vet for diagnosis and advice, and don’t be tempted to use home treatments. Using such products may not be safe and/or effective, thereby risking making things worse and prolonging the outbreak.

I’m afraid we can’t really advise on that. Please see a vet and discuss treatment options with the vet. Unfortunately while you suspect it is fungal, you will need a confirmed diagnosis from the vet and the correct treatment . Treating on spec with otc treatments can prove problematic if it isn’t the right treatment or at the right dosage and a partly treated or incorrectly treated condition can make it more difficult to treat in the long term.

Please don’t put it in his mouth. I’m sure it’s not an oral treatment. Vet visit first. Then treat according to the diagnosis. Good luck.

I wouldn’t use any medication meant for internal use for humans because the dosages will be completely wrong for guinea pigs and it could kill them. Dakarin Oral Gel is to treat mouth/throat thrush not fungal on the skin
Hope you can you get proper treatment from a vet, much safer

I would definitely book a vets visit. The last thing you want is to make matters worse. I really would not use human treatments on your piggie.
