So, 2 quick questions please. Can Cystease be taken life long as a prevention for bladder issues, & is glucosamine made from sugar? There's high glucose levels in my piggies urine. Thanks

Hi, I am not 100% sure but I think cystease can be given long term, I also started giving my piggie Ruby cystease in November and vet didn't tell me to stop so. Not sure about glucosamine question. @Piggies&buns any advice?

My piggy Lucy was on Cystease long term and the vet said this was fine.

Has your vet given you a reason for the high sugar in your guinea pigs urine, and what have they suggested to treat this?
The Cystease shouldn't affect this, but if it is an ongoing issue it does need to be investigated, as high sugar levels in urine can be an indicator of various problems.

He was on antibiotics, & started taking a probiotic. I didn't know it was for short term use. I just continued to use it every day. I looked at the ingredients of it, & saw it was 88.9% dextrose. This is obviously why his wee is high in glucose. It can't have been anything else as his diet is excellent. He has another urine test in 3 weeks, so now the probiotic was stopped 2 days ago, hopefully his glucose will drop now. I'm a new guinea pig owner, so maybe I should have been told not to use it long term, or it should say on the packaging.

I've had pigs on long term Cystease before with no ill effects 😊
One of my boys who had it long term had glucose in his urine, but it wasn't the Cystease, he was diabetic.
Might be worth checking for that with your vet 😊

Does anyone know the dosage for cystease-feliway, since it’s made for cats I’m not sure of the dosage for piggies. X

I used to mix a full capsule with 2ml of water and give 1ml in the morning and 1ml in the evening so half a capsule in the morning and half in the evening but I started off by giving half a capsule a day x
