Hi, today someone cut my Gps nails. How often should they be cut?
Thanks

I check my piggies nails every week at the weekly check and trim as necessary. With my piggies cutting nails of all 4 feet at once is too stressful for them.

I trim as needed and each pig seems to be a bit different but usually every two weeks I'm cutting front or back. Sometimes I split cutting front and back nails if they don't want to sit. If they're sitting well and all the nails need it then I'll get all done at the same time.

I really hate cutting their nails. ☹️ I probably leave it too long between trims as I need to get my courage up. I’ll definitely try doing less toes in one sitting. Why didn’t I think of that. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Hi , my two boys are now 8 months old, they went to the vets at six months as Nibbles got a hay poke in the eye and needed some ointment :( The vet, who was lovely and really seemed to know her stuff on Guinea pigs ( I had been warned some vets are not piggy friendly) said at the time the nails were fine, and that some piggies don't need to have nails cut at all. I'm now looking at Munch's back feet and the nails are looking long enough to be curling - so I think it's time, however one of his back feet have black toes and nails so I'm a bit nervous (I was considering asking the vet but a vets visit is a stressful trip for all concerned especially if it's going to be every few weeks)

Any advice please - first time piggy mum to two mischievous little boys.

Hi, here's a guide that you may find helpful.

If they don’t like it or are a bit naughty just try to do a couple every day. I was trying to do them all in one go and someone said space it out. I was like oh yeah I hadn’t thought of that 🤦🏻‍♀️
