I was cutting Sams nails and got to the last nail, went to chop it and just as i clipped he moved and i got the quick. Its bleeding real bad :( i dipped his toe in flour and put Sudo cream on it. He's just sitting in my lap now, he doesn't look in pain and it moving around and looks done but i dont know whether to put him in his cage? Of what? :( theres blood on his fur too, but only a little bit from his toe.

Poor Sam. He should be ok as long as it's not still bleeding heavily. I would just keep an eye on him and if it looks bad take him to the vets. My old piggie was a wriggler and I remember my dad cutting his quick. He rubbed a bar of soap on it and it stopped bleeding, (not sure if this is the correct thing to do so wouldn't advise it) lol.

Awh. Well its stopped bleeding now but hes just holding it up a little when he sits. I guess it will just be a little sore. Okay, if it gets any infections or anything i will be sure to take him to the vets. He's eating veggies at the moment, so i think he will be fine. Ooo soap? Aha okaay, bless the little piggie :) thankyou

DON'T PANIC. I think that's the main thing. You have done the right thing with the flour, just keep an eye on it and it should be fine as long as it's not heavily bleeding. I use stiptic pencil which can be ordered form ebay and it's good for pressing on their nails if you catch a quick to stem the bleeding and dry it out.

If you've gotten the bleeding to stop, that's really all you can do! Dipping in flour is what I do... I also had a styptic pencil at some point, but have lost it somewhere. You can also apply gentle pressure to the paw while it's bleeding if they will let you. One of my pigs actually ripped one of her nails off way down by the paw and it bled like crazy, but thankfully never got infected. I would just check it to make sure it doesn't look red, swollen, or have any discharge, and make extra sure that the bedding surfaces are clean and dry to minimize any bacteria that may get in.

Okay, I did when I first saw it because it bled so much onto my hand. Phew, flour was my first though and then i just used Sudo cream because it worked wonders to Sams cuts when pip attacked him. Ooo, ill have a look into that! Thankyou so much. I put some extra fleece in his cage and some soft bedding for him to snuggle up to :) @Flutterby
Aha okay ;) thankyou, if it happens again ill try that too. @7squeakers.
I have definitely got it to stop but its just sore now I'm guessing. Oh my gosh, ouch! Okay, i will clean their cages today just to be extra sure, thanks for the help. @Freela
I love this forum :)

I hate it when I catch a quick, with 8 guinea pigs it always happens at least once. I am so careful too, sometimes you just can't help it.

I had a guinea pig that used to take 3 people to cut his nails. Lol

My dad would cut the nail
I would hold Snowball
And my sister would stand beside me feeding him veggies. Lol.
(He still squealed like we were torturing him) lol

Some of my girls have a struggle, I wrap them gently in a towel with paws poking out. Some will just sit and wait.

Most of my piggies are very good when having their nails cut. Suzie (RIP) was the worst. She would wriggle like a fish, doing awkward contortions! Didn't make a lot of noise, just wriggled. Dark nails are really tricky.

Ahh, neither of my pigs mind too much, i mean its not their favorite thing but sometimes they wriggle and sometimes they sit there eating :)
