Hiya, I was just looking for a little bit of advice on how to keep a cut lip clean and what signs I should look out for in case of infection. I did a post on the piggies blog which has all the details and a few photos. Essentially Buddy and Basil had a fight and Basil came off worse. (I know you should separate if blood is drawn but they are cuddled up and happy now so it would do more harm than good.)

Blog Post

I was just in a bit of a panic last night when I spoke to the vet and it was still bleeding. This morning it appears to have scabbed over, he is eating and drinking fine, weight is normal, cuddled up with Buddy like nothing happened.

I think I am more upset than they are. It was quite a shock.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give

Amy

When one of my boars got a bite on the lip i just kept it clean with a mild salt solution and kept a close eye on it and avoided acidic food like apples etc till it had healed :) Your boys looks sore poor thing hope he heals quick x

Thanks for replying, I picked up some little tubes of saline and packets of critical care from the vet today and got him checked. Looks like it will heal on its own. It's just very sore and I'm softening his food and cutting veggies smaller to help him out but other than that he's normal.

Certainly like keeping me on my toes
