Hi, my 4 year old boar has cushings, tested and confirmed. The vets are struggling to find a suitable treatment. Has anyone had any experience in this?
 
Could he have a treatment similar to what they treat horses with for cushings. I have honestly never hear of a guinea pig with cushings.
Or i would ask about the same or similar treatment to that for dogs or cats.
Has there not been any documented treatment for it in rabbits or anything like that?

It’s unknown territory I believe. But his levels should be below 30, and they’re 1300 so it’s definitely cushings. We’ve paid hundreds to get all the diagnostics done, but all the treatment is for dogs/horses so no good for small animals 💔

We don't really see Cushings a lot in pigs but it is documented and I know there is a test available but not sure how accurate it is. We have to in exotic medicine extrapolate from other species I'm afraid and begin on treatments which are designed for other species. Have a chat with your vet. I'm sure we could look up dosages which have been used in guinea pigs and advise your vet if you would like to try trialling treatment let me know. Cortisol levels in guinea pigs are naturally much much higher than other species due to being prey animals. Have a chat with your vet, as it would be worthwhile trialling treatment.

Hi. how are things with your piggie and what treatment.
I have a piggie who being treated with Cushings I like to talk but not sure if you still on the forum

Hi @David Piggie Lover - this is a really old thread so I'm not sure if you're still here, but I've got a suspected Cushing's case with one of my boars and just wondering if you've got your Cushing's case treated and under control?

Chloe was a lovely piggie
Always the timid one but loved a photo.
She died before I could treat her
She was old and had lots illness
I was going to find the thread but I got really upset 😭
