I have jsut taken my piggie Ryan to the vet because his belly is podgy. She said its Cushings Disease and theres nothing that can be done.
Does anyone know anything about it or know where i can get some info. All i can find info on is on dogs.

Hi Hayley,

Sorry to hear this. All I could find was the Guinea Lynx info. Maybe PM Maryh as she has medical knowledge.

Good luck!

Louise

I feel like he has been handed a death sentence from what i read on the internet but the vet didnt seem too concerned!

He doesnt seem to be in pain. He prob seems more happy than he has been in a while. I'm just concerned that hes 1.5 yrs old and he was never podgy before so maybe he as a tumour, as i read in the net thats 20% of the causes of the disease in dogs.

have you thought of maybe getting a second opinion? could put your mind at rest?

I would get a second opinion. Could it be bloat or something like that? I've never heard of it in pigs before. :(

I'm sorry to hear that your piggie isn't well. Maybe go with what the others have said and get a second opinion.

Aww I'm sorry to hear about Ryan, poor lil thing, Hope you get a second opinion that is much more helpful, Its strange how the vet said nothing can be done? I sometimes feel I should get a second opinion from the vets, some of them seem to just 'nod you in' I feel...

Oh love sorry to hear this 8...
all our love and healing wheeeeeeeeeeks for little Ryan we'll keep our paws crossed that you can find some info on this for him x>>x>>x>>x>>x>>

She asked the other vet there who said the same thing. I dont knw what else it would be?
That why i was thinkin it was a tumour cos he never had any before!

i saw this already thats whats worrying me that he has a tumour! He's squeeking at me , better fetch his dnner!

Ryan passed away this afternoon. I am going to change vets, this isnt the first time the stupid vet has done this, i'm just angry with myself for not doing it soonier. i'm really going to miss the little fella squeaking at me! 8...

I'm so sorry Hayley. I do agree finding a Guinea Savy vet would be a good idea.

Thinking of you. x

So sorry to hear your news about Ryan ... rest in peace little one!

I am just going to put a thread up about my Holly and then click on the links and read members advice to you, as I am worried about her and her really fat tummy.

Sorry again ... thinking of you xx

I'm so sorry for your loss :(

I know it doesn't help now, but in hamsters when they get cushings disease their fur starts to gradually fall out, then their skin becomes dry and wrinkly and will often become cracked making open sores.

I'm sorry you lost your little one. Please don't be angry with yourself. You did everything you could.

He did start to lose his hair on his belly where the fluid was collecting. just really going to miss the lil fella. The shed is so quiet without him. when used to go down there he started them all of squeaking at me

I'm so sorry he didn't make it, but you did everything you could. These little chaps like to put us through our paces don't they x

sorry to hear the news, hes at peace now.

Yes i agree with Louise, having a GP savvy vet is best.

You did your best for him hun,

rip little one x>>x>>
