Anyone have experience with this in pigs?

My vet said it could be the possible cause and is doing 2 more blood tests on thursday to confim

His liver, kidneys and glucose levels all normal but blood cortisal level was very high which is why they are considering this option

If this dosent give us answers, i dont no what ill do, i will have spend £900

I’m sorry to hear this
I don’t have experience and don’t know much about it. What I do know is that it is rare and it’s not something that comes up very often on the forum so finding personal experiences may not be easy.

There are a few threads about it though. You will see on the older thread that Abi said that it’s normal for piggies to have higher cortisol levels.

Cushing's disease
Cushings

thanks, i will look and read

My vet said the expected cortisol level for a piggie is no more than 160 and my pigs was apperently 980

I’m afraid very few of us have had any experience of Cushing’s disease as it’s very rare in piggies. I sadly lost a piggy many years ago to what we believed was Cushing’s but she passed before we managed to get conclusive blood tests from her. I hope that the blood test gives you some answers.

thanks, he had tests on thursday so just got to wait now
He is drinking even more than he was now to so hopefully they dont take to long

So from the results there pretty certain he does not have Cushing's
If it came back "negative" like it has I was hoping I could just monitor from here on out but the vet is still concerned and would ideally want to do two more tests.
An ultrasound costing £155 and a water deprivation test, I don't no the cost of that but he said he would have to stay all day so I can only imagine a price...

I have agreed to the ultrasound even though I really cant afford it and the only money I had put aside I used for all his other tests
I had to pay £72 at the vets for 2 of my cats today also which does not help

Ultrasound has been done today and everything is normal
Vet is going to contact some other vets to talk possibility's, he mentioned potentially the brain i.e. telling him he needs water all the time or another type of diabetes
But at what point do I say enough is enough, if I just had pigs I would happily continue as much as needed but I have other animals who need caring for also
I don't want to give up if its something I can treat but how much more money can I throw at this?

I have decided to not spend any more money on this for now
I have to face facts that if there is some obscure problem how much am I going to spend finding it or that they may not even be a problem at this point

Apart from the excessive drinking and thus urination he is perfectly fine so I will just moniter from here and of course take him back if anything else comes up

Fingers crossed your piggie does well as he is. I don't blame you for not spending more money on this. I have come to the same conclusion with two of my boars at the moment.

Thanks, Ive spent around £1000 at this point and I just can't spend anymore
If I only had pigs, I might continue but I have other animals to think about sadly

I hope that he continues to do well. Testing can get really expensive and there's no guarantee of answers (and sometimes no solution to the problem even if answers are forthcoming.) Best wishes to you and your piggie!
