So, one of my guys is doing something... strange.

I've just finished the bedtime pet rounds, and while giving the pigs more hay I noticed some leftover dinner. Strange in itself, but the leftovers in question were two discs of cucumber... the skins completely chewed off. Not a bit of the middle eaten.

I'm not sure what to make of it, but at least they seem happy. :)) Does anyone else have a pig who eats part of certain veggies, but not all of it?

My piggies do the same thing with cucumbers too! Come to think of it, my foster piggy also only eats the skin of the cucumber too. I guess they may not like the cucumber seeds. :))

Most of my piggies eat the cucumber skin first. The rest gets eaten afterwards.
With five piggies this doesn't take long, but in my smaller groups the inner part of the cucumber lasted longer.
There are some piggies who prefer the inner part as well.

Different eating habits are normal. But if a piggy changes his habit, you have to take a closer look at this piggy.

This is actually very common.
We have a video of our pig Eddi doing exactly that here:

Fast forward to 1:45 if you just want to see the 'circular eating'.

I've seen eating the edges first before but not leaving a perfectly good bit of cucumber! I could practically hear the outrage from ghosts of piggies past :)) Having said that I am about to start the morning pet rounds and do expect there to have been a 'mop-up' exercise overnight - my older sow in particular is very anti-food waste!

Don't worry, these guys are still relatively new to the household so I am just learning their particular quirks :) They're certainly not giving me any cause for concern in their eating habits otherwise - the baby (now teen) sow in particular has almost doubled in size in the past two months 😳 (All at what the guides tell me is a normal pace, but I'm still very impressed)

2 of mine have been doing this for the last month or so. They are normally cucumber eaters and are in different cages. I suspect the cucumbers at the moment taste different than normal or are softer in the middle or something. I have noticed this happen from time to time over the years it seems to be seasonal. Just before Christmas they wouldn't eat green pepper for a few weeks now they are loving it again. It may depend or where we are importing veg from or how it's stored.
