The Buttons saga continues :( A bit over 5 weeks since her spay the little girl was finally almost back to her normal self when this morning she started crying when toileting. She was sitting at the water bottle when she started whining, frantically reached back to her bits, got a poop out (I think?) and then ran into her hidey like something really spooked her. Got her out to check her over and at first I thought her bits look a bit swollen but on second look I‘m pretty sure that‘s what they always look like. Popped her back in the cage and went out for lunch. When I came back just now same thing happened. She cried in her hidey, got her out to check her over, fed her some treats to check her appetite, popped her back. Again cried, frantically reached to her bits, ate a poop (I think) and ran into her hidey like something spooked her. There‘s no blood spots in the cage and she seems absolutely fine otherwise. She hadn‘t lost any weight this morning, her appetite is good - currently in the hay tray munching. Will call the vet tomorrow morning and get her booked in. Hopefully it‘s „just“ a UTI and no late complications from her spay.

Oh man, I just want to be done with unwell piggies :(

Oh, I'm sorry to hear Buttons is causing you trouble again.
Have you tried popping her in a kitchen roll lined box to get a little wee sample, just in case her pee is bloodstained?

I just feel so sorry for her (and for my wallet) :( Poor muffin just can’t catch a break.

That’s a really good idea, I‘ll do that now. Thankfully we also still have some metacam which I‘ve given her now to tide her over until I can get her to our vet. In experience, this will knock her appetite but I rather have her syringe fed than in pain.

Aw bless her 😞 I hope you can get her in to see the vet soon. I am keeping my fingers crossed it’s just a uti or even better, nothing x
Thank you Claire, I‘m really hoping it‘s just a momentary complication that possibly resolves itself but that’s probably wishful thinking really 🙈 x

I didn‘t manage to get a pee sample out of her while she was out of the cage (she’s notorious for not peeing when she‘s not home) but she peed right when she got back in the cage. I managed to dab it up with a tissue, no visible blood. I also tried to get one of the urine sticks to to work with pushing the wet tissue on the blood marker (you do get inventive when it needs to be). That also didn’t show any blood but I‘m not sure how accurate this „second hand sample“ is on the stick. She seems a bit better since she‘s had her metacam dose, still crying but not as frequently and only when peeing. She did a few squeak free poops while she was out so that‘s something! She does seem to have a very painful bladder as I accidentally pushed on it when she wriggled in my hand and she let out the loudest squeal. Poor girly!

Buttons is thankfully still bright and happy this morning but still crying. The metacam is doing it's job though and I think her pain is in an ok range as we went from frantically reaching to her bits and then running away to only slight whining when peeing and no crying when pooping. Managed to get her booked in at the vets for 6:15pm today. Fingers crossed she takes the trip well and doesn't stop eating again!

Well, vet appointment was cancelled because of flood protection. We‘ve been having some massive rainfall over the last 2 days so everywhere is flooding. We‘re trying again tomorrow! Buttons still seems happy enough, haven’t heard her cry since I came home an hour ago and she already had her dinner. Although she‘s now mad at me because I‘d already gotten her out to go to the vets before they rang me but hey ho, that’s the price a piggy slave has to pay right?

I've got a piggy who's been crying in pain when weeing since April. Had all the treatment for IC & bacterial cysistis already. Though we are just about to go through an ovariectomy to remove cysts in hopes it may help. Vet said that they heal quicker with ovariectomy and she does them more often. I hope you get another vet appointment soon!

I hope you're not effected to much by the flooding. Just saw about the situation in Tirol on the news.
We just had a few drops of rain so far. I hope for some rain tomorrow, but it shouldn't be as bad around here.

Thankfully the area around us wasn't affected, the danger zone moved quite close yesterday and rivers started overflowing just 30 minutes away from us. But the situation seems to have started to relax today so I think the worst is behind us. Fingers crossed it's not going to be as bad in Vienna as it was here. Although it was a lot of rain, the low temperatures are quite enjoyable!

It looks to be a some sort of UTI/Cystitis that‘s bothering her. She had a Baytril and Metacam injection at the vets and we also have some more antibiotics and Metacam for the next 5-7 days, depending on how she is feeling. This should usually also help her with her swollen paw as well as any other inflammation that she has in her abdomen. She was quite reactive when my vet examined her abdomen so she says there might be something going on in there. But that’s something we‘ll figure out over the coming days/weeks. Hopefully, the Baytril will get rid of any inflammation she has and she‘ll be a painfree baby soon!

She‘s thankfully eating and running about which is very rare after a vet visit so at least she must be feeling somewhat good. Fingers crossed the Baytril won‘t knock her appetite too much. I’ve already stepped up the poop soup (my vet is a huge fan of this as well and swears by it) so hopefully we won’t have an upset tummy.

All fingers and paws crossed!

It has cooled down around here too. We had some rain, but not too much.
The Danube is pretty high, but we have a very good system to protect Vienna from flooding. So the water has to rise very high for it to become dangerous.
I hope there won't be more flooding in other parts of Austria.

That‘s very good to hear that things aren’t too bad in Vienna. So far it has relaxed here as well, there should still be some rain tomorrow but not a lot and then it‘s back to sunshine again. Hopefully there‘ll be a few mild late summer days ahead of us!

Fingers firmly crossed that the antibiotics and metacam clear whatever it is that’s causing her bother. Hopefully just a simple uti x
We haven’t had a single squeaky wee today (none that I have heard anyways) so that’s real progress compared to Sunday! Hopefully it‘ll continue like this x

Buttons was still a happy nugget this morning with a ferocious appetite, seemingly a bigger one than she'd had in ages. She was also at the very top of her current weight range which is highly unusual for her after a vet visit. Still haven't heard a squeaky wee since yesterday morning! Fingers crossed she'll tolerate the oral Baytril as well as she tolerates the injected one. We're currently trying to get it under control with only one dose a day to protect her tummy as that one's just about recovered so hopefully it won't wreak havoc on her digestion again.🤞

We had no more squeaky wees since she had her baytril injection on Monday!:yahoo: She also generally seems much better - more energy, less sleeping super deeply all the time. And the best thing of all: I didn’t syringe feed her yesterday because my gut told me to stop & she didn’t lose any weight! She was 940g yesterday and today she weighed in at 935g! I am the proudest and happiest pig slave there is today 🤩 Finally, 6 weeks of syringe feeding and extensive care later, we both have our lives back 😂

Just a quick (hopefully) close to this thread. Buttons hasn't had any squeaky wees since her vet appointment last Tuesday. She's been on Baytril until Sunday which thankfully didn't cause her any issues - likely thanks to Pewpsies delicious poop soup. I will keep an eye on her in case anything comes back but for now, we're happy and healthy!
